Stone Path In the Woods

New clients in Dahlonega, GA contacted us to re-vamp their walkway that went from the front of their house to a side deck, through the woods in the backyard, and ending at a lower-level patio.

Makeshift dirt & mulch walkway with rocks for edging.
The walkway meanders through the woods in their backyard.

Issue #1:

Water was not draining.  Their path was simply dirt and mulch, with rocks acting as the edging.  Not only does it mostly meander through shady areas that don’t allow anything to dry, but the rocks were also trapping water in the walkway.

Solution:

We removed the rocks.  A drainage box, and a lot of underground drainage pipes were added.

A drain box was placed off to the side of the walkway.

Issue #2:

This couple often walked their two large dogs along this path.  Everyone would always return with very dirty paws (and shoes), tracking mud into their new home.

Solution:

We replaced the dirt walkway with stone.  Oklahoma natural stone to be exact.  A design was drawn, the dirt and mulch were removed, concrete was poured, and the stone was placed very strategically on top of the concrete.

Placing these stones in just the right way is Art!

Issue #3:

They had a couple of tripping hazards.  The wooden steps leading up to the side deck were uneven and unstable.  Also, there were several tree roots just at the beginning of their walkway, next to the driveway.

Solution:

We replaced the wooden steps with custom-cut stones, making their transition on the new walkway much safer and smoother. We also used an excavator to remove the tree roots, as well as a couple of tree stumps that were found underground.

We had to remove tree roots and stumps at the beginning of the walkway, which had become a tripping hazard.

A special request from our clients was to add a bench or a seating area part way through the walking path.  They can now take a rest, or just sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery and serenity that is found in their beautiful, wooded yard.

The clients asked for a bench or seating area off the walkway. It is in the woods, but faces their house.
