The iconic image of a log cabin with a stone fire place is as American as apple pie. They have stood as the back drop in old folk stories and modern horror movies alike. They represent humility and tradition, survival and perseverance. So when this log cabin needed a fire place face lift, Art of Stone gladly answered the call.
For this fireplace, the home owners chose a traditional stacked stone with flag stones for the hearth. To add character, small boulders were added at random intervals and used as the keystone. The exterior of the fireplace on the outside of the home was also given a matching makeover.
What might not be apparent at first is that all of the stones used are manufactured. Manufactured stones, simply put, are made from pouring different colored concrete into molds. The results are natural looking stones at a fraction of the cost. They are also faster to install, because the backs of the stones are designed to be easily mounted.
Manufactured stones aren’t suitable for all situations. They are more susceptible to damage and can easily loose their color if not maintained properly. However, with little to no daily wear and tear, manufactured stones can last forever on a fireplace and chimney, making it ideal.
The result is a charming, one of a kind fireplace that blends the best of traditional log cabins and modern craftsmanship.
