Sit A While

At Art of Stone Gardening, our goal is to help you enjoy your outdoor spaces. We plant flowers, build decorative walls, fix drainage issues, prune and maintain gardens to create a beautiful and functional space for you and your family. We want these areas to be used and admired, we want you to be able to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. So to encourage you to spend more time outdoors, we love to include sitting areas.

Patios are the outdoor sitting room, kitchen, and/or lounge. Chairs, grills, couches, umbrellas, and other furniture can be placed on the level ground of a patio with out worrying about rocking tables or sprained ankles. A patio is also the perfect place to build a fire pit or fire place, far from fallen leaves, mulch, and plants.

An awning can make a patio usable in rainy weather or provide cover for an outdoor kitchen. Fairy lights can add ambiance, richly colored flagstones add interest. Patios are the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors either by yourself or with friends and family.

Benches are a classic addition to any garden. Whether tucked among the flowers or shaded by a grove of trees, a bench can really make you feel like you’re one with the plants.

We’ve even built benches into a retaining wall. These floating stone benches

These benches are both beautiful and functional, creating a plethora of sitting areas from which to view the gardens. Can’t you just imagine friends and family milling about the back yard sitting among the flowers, chatter and laughter filling the air?

How about an actual garden party? An iron dinning set was recently reupholstered and placed in this stone vegetable garden. Seating eight, this table encourages conversation and fellowship in a setting that can’t be replicated.

My personal favorite are reading nooks. Places for one or two people to sit, a place to slow down and soak up the sun. The silver bench in this reading nook is actually a piece of art created by the home owner, tucked away into a secluded part of the garden she asked Suzanne and Jason to build.

Do you have a favorite place to admire your outdoor spaces? Do you sometimes forget to slow down and smell the roses? To remember that we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth? I know I do. When this happens, find a place to sit awhile.
