With spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to upgrade the look of your home and landscape. Follow us as we transform a ho-hum deck into a handsome, high-quality exterior living space.
For this job, we didn’t have to start from scratch. The original deck was in good shape. But we greatly improved its whole look by replacing lattice work, stairs, and railings.
The white lattice work was a wobbly eyesore. The stairs descending from the deck were uneven and unsafe. A step’s rise—its height—should be uniform to prevent trips and falls. On these stairs, the rise was different for the top and bottom steps. That’s an accident waiting to happen!

The steps of the original deck were too wide, which wasted space on each side. A giant shrub blocking the steps had to go!

We ripped out the flimsy lattice work and replaced it with a handsome, durable lattice. New railings and supports pull the project together.

We narrowed the stairs and made the steps uniform. We also expanded the patio at the foot of the stairs. Now there’s plenty of room for a green egg and its accessories. We even included storage access. Fresh landscaping adds to the timeless simplicity of this redo.
